For our next stop, we hopped back over to the adventure side of traveling for a 5-day caving expedition. We heard about the amazing caves in the Phang Nha area, and after our adventures in Soppong, knew we couldn’t miss out!
The night before the trek, we stayed at a sweet little beachfront hostel with a great vibe. But the highlight for me were the two sweet, snugly puppies! I could be found in this or a similar position for the majority of our time there.

The main attraction in this area is the Son Doong cave. It is the largest known cave on earth, and its tour comes with a price tag to match. As much as we wanted to do it, we couldn’t stomach the cost. So we opted for a different 5-day trip and were so glad we did! We did the Tu Lan Cave Expedition with Oxalis and instead of touring one cave, we got to explore a few a day! We spent our days walking, swimming, climbing and hiking through the jungle to explore caves, waterfalls and more!
One fun fact we learned is that this area was used for filming the recent movie Skull Island. The locals are incredible proud of that fact, and I understand why the team selected the location. It is absolutely beautiful! We even – supposedly – crossed right through one of the locations used in the film, and I of course made sure to point out what I thought was that location when we saw the movie. (If I am wrong, just let me believe I am right.)

On the trek we had a couple who worked for Disney on Ice, another guy traveling on his own, 2 British cave experts, a tour guide and a handful of porters. Here are some of our favorite photos from the trip:
We’ve also got quite a few videos from inside the caves, but some of those will be added later.
