From Suburbs to Trailer Parks in 5 Days

After Brandon, Jenna and I spent a couple of nights recovering from our Santa Fe hike in Colorado, we headed to the Jackson Hole area of Wyoming. We were taking this trip day by day and by the time we tried to book a camp site, they were all full. So we made our way to Alpine, Wyoming. Our camp site was Greys River Cover RV Park – the first of many RV parks we would visit – and was quite an experience!

We got in with just enough time to set up camp before dark. The site was really nice, open and very clean. (Great first experience!) We were going to head out to find dinner, but there was a lot of activity in the on-site tavern so we decided to join.

The place was swarming with what looked like bikers, but turned out to be the un-biker social group UMF: Ugly Mother F******.  (Check out their site. It is hilariously terrible.)

This rowdy bunch made for great people watching, and it was karaoke night which made it even better. At one point I was invited to dance with one of them which was really a site as he was beyond drunk. We also witnessed a short but entertaining fight in the bar. It lasted a whole of 3 seconds before one of them was kicked out. Needless to say, our first night in Wyoming was memorable!

The next day we enjoyed some hiking a fishing in the area. Brandon bought a new fly fishing rod before we left, so we were ready to break it in. We were trying it out on the river when I had to ward off a dog  (coming off a rafting boat) that was aggressive with Jenna. And even though I somehow ended up on the ground, I still claim we won that battle!

So with a skinned knee and no luck with the fish, we were ready to find a new spot to relax. Suddenly, somehow, Brandon spotted a building way off the road with the word “BREWERY” across the top, and he was drawn in like a moth to a flame. It was in the middle of a construction area with no other buildings nearby, but Melvin Brewing was a gem of a find! We’d tasted their Killer Bees beer at the tavern the night before, and it was delicious. But nothing compared to their Drunken Master!

If the names of their beers sounds familiar to you, it might be because all of their beer names are somehow linked to the Wu Tang Clan. In fact, we learned that after unexpectedly winning a big award at a major beer festival, the brewer was asked to give an acceptance speech. Unprepared for this, he simply said, “Wu Tang Clan, bitches,” dropped the mic, and walked off stage.

Sadly Melvin has limited distribution, so if you find it, buy it and send it to us – particularly the Drunken Master! (Thank you in advance.)
